Pick a day when the weather is moderate to do the repair too cold and the shingles can crack. Set the depth of your circular saw to the thickness of the roof decking. When replacing a damaged asphalt roof shingle you can either replace the entire piece or cut the shingle into sections and replace just a single tab. Replacing shingles due to wind damage or a fallen limb is a relatively easy and inexpensive.

Too warm and the shingle sealants are tough to break. Use the claw of a hammer to loosen the adhesive under the tabs 2 rows above the damaged shingles and then loosen any exposed nails with the claw.
