Repairing Metal Guttering

To restore or repair your rusted box gutter liner you first need to clean the gutter and remove any debris.

You can paint this primer directly over the existing liner and any rust that exists. There should be no more than a inch drop in the direction of the downspout.

Remove half of your flimsy gutter hangers with an electric drill. Buy a tube of roofing cement 1 40 and a metal repair patch several inches larger than the damaged area. Apply silicone and reassemble. You can cut out the larger hole with a tin snips or you could use an oscillating multi tool equipped with a metal cutting blade.

For example use aluminum flashing to patch an aluminum gutter. Make sure to seal the drop outlet to the gutter with seam sealer. It s important that the patch match the gutter material. Check the downspout step 4.

Larger holes can be carefully covered with a piece of flashing sheet metal. Once the metal dries rub it with an abrasive pad then wipe away dust and allow to dry completely. Clean the downspout joints and replace the gaskets step 5. Find the center point of your gutter and secure a support.
