To restore or repair your rusted box gutter liner you first need to clean the gutter and remove any debris.

Install a supportive gutter.
Next coat the inside of the gutter channel with a self etching metal primer.
Scrub the inside of the gutter around the hole using a wire brush dipped in water to remove rust.

Then inject roof and gutter sealant into the joint with an applicator gun.
If you have plastic guttering joined with a union piece one of the gaskets seals may be damaged.
If your gutters are fastened with spikes and some spikes are loose or rusted simply hammering the spike back in isn t.
Screw in 2 3 philip s screws and remove the other hangers.
You can paint this primer directly over the existing liner and any rust that exists.
There should be no more than a inch drop in the direction of the downspout.
Remove half of your flimsy gutter hangers with an electric drill.
Buy a tube of roofing cement 1 40 and a metal repair patch several inches larger than the damaged area.
Apply silicone and reassemble.
You can cut out the larger hole with a tin snips or you could use an oscillating multi tool equipped with a metal cutting blade.
For example use aluminum flashing to patch an aluminum gutter.
Make sure to seal the drop outlet to the gutter with seam sealer.
It s important that the patch match the gutter material.
Check the downspout step 4.
Larger holes can be carefully covered with a piece of flashing sheet metal.
Once the metal dries rub it with an abrasive pad then wipe away dust and allow to dry completely.
Clean the downspout joints and replace the gaskets step 5.
Find the center point of your gutter and secure a support.
Apply plastic roofing cement step 3.
Saving a sagging gutter 1.
Squeeze the gutter to release the union piece peel the gasket away and replace it with a new one.
Cover any holes you find in the metal gutter with some roofing cement.
Look for any metal brackets that are connecting.
If clips or brackets hold your gutters check for broken clips and loose or missing screws.
The cement should be spread at least two to three inches around the holes.
