The first step when removing a wood roof truss is to disassemble the existing roof that is causing a load upon the truss.

When taking the roofing materials off be sure to extend the path of demolishing to each existing truss on each side of the damaged one.
You will either need to remove the old upstairs ceiling or will have to support it from below until the new trusses are in place and the bottom chord of your stick built roof sistered to the new trusses for support.
Make sure to disconnect those before starting.
