Remove a kwikset knob lock set with no screws and no detent the secret catch. If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door. Step 2 straighten a large wire paper clip out and insert one end into the hole until you feel the spring loaded retaining pin. Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.

Remove the latch mechanism if you re installing a new handle. Remove the two screws on the inside door knob faceplate using a phillips head screwdriver. Remove the handle from the outer side of the door and set it aside. Take out the screws then carefully pry off the plate with a flat head screwdriver.

When repairing or replacing a doorknob lever you need to remove the faceplate also called a trim plate or rosette to gain access to the internal latch and mounting components. The screws secure the knobs together to the door. Open the door so that you can access both the inner and outer doorknobs. Here s how i did it.

Turn each screw about five or six full turns counterclockwise. Find the screws on the side of the door that secure the latch plate. Diy remove replace door s handle with hidden screws. With the plate removed you can now pull the latch mechanism through the side of the door.

Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door. Look on the neck of the inner doorknob for a slot or hole between the back of the doorknob and the door.
